My Struggle with Balancing College + Blogging

Hey everyone! Today I just really wanted to be real and honest with my readers. Balancing college and blogging has been a little bit of a struggle for me at times this semester. And I thought now was an appropriate time to discuss this topic on my blog because I didn't really feel this struggle during my freshman year of college near as much as I feel it now that I'm into my sophomore year.

I think this struggle comes from a few things. The first is that, as a sophomore in college, I've basically finished most of my general education requirements, so this semester I'm focusing on taking classes for my minor in Sociology. This means I'm taking two upper level Sociology classes. Both classes require a good amount of required reading and a few outside projects. I also nanny after my classes are out for the day, which is new for me because I've never gone to school and worked until now. So this combination, unfortunately, begins to make extra time for blogging limited sometimes.

The second is that fact that this semester I had lost a little bit of my creative juice. I had a little writer's block to be honest. There were times when I wanted to write and wanted to blog, but I just couldn't find anything I really wanted to say or wasn't happy with what I had written. The only thing I could come up with was going more life update type posts, and I wasn't sure if that was something y'all as readers would be interested in because I had done so many travel and life related posts at the beginning of the summer. But if you all would like to see more life update posts on Faith's Girly Life, please let me know! I'd love to write them more often if that's something y'all want to read! The good news is that the writers block is gone and I have some content I'm really proud of coming on the blog for y'all.

So I wanted to talk a little bit about this just to show that I'm not perfect and struggle at times. I think sometimes blogs can paint a picture of a having life completely together 100% of the time, which obviously isn't true! Things happen in life. I don't always have everything together. Sometimes being in college and blogging can be difficult for me (and many other bloggers too!). So if you go through a rough day or week or find something you struggle with- it's okay to struggle sometimes!

I also want to let other bloggers know that it's okay to struggle with the balance and it's okay to not be posting constantly. I think bloggers put pressure on themselves to make it look like they have all their ducks in a row and even pressure themselves into getting a certain amount of  posts up each week or month. But it's okay not to be perfect! Weather your a blogger or not- no one's perfect!

I hope y'all enjoyed my honestly and feel free to let me know what your thought are in the comments below!

Blogger Interview: Erin D.

Erin is the blogger behind Erin's Fashion Corner. Read below to learn more about this blogger!
~~~
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging in October of last year and I'm absolutely in love with it. I started my blog because I wanted a place to share the outfits I put together with people!
Do you have a staple clothing item? If so, what is it?
If you keep up with my blog posts you would know that I have an unhealthy obsession with trench vests. I absolutely love trench vests! I love the classic style of a trench coat but I also love the versatility of a vest and when you put those two together poof it makes the perfect staple item. I love them because you can wear them in all the different seasons.
What's your favorite TV show to binge watch?
This is a tough question, but I would have to say "Gossip Girl" (which I'm watching right now) "The Carrie Diaries" and "Younger". I love watching super girly tv shows that have anything to do with NYC.
Do you have a favorite, or very recent, post on your blog? Link it!
If I had to choose my favorite post it would have to be my Feminine meets Edgy (http://erinsfashioncorner.blogspot.com/2016/05/feminine-meets-edgy.html) outfit post. I love this post so much because I think everything about this post from the outfit to the background of the pictures screams me.
What's your favorite quote?
"Nothings impossible, the word itself says I'm possible." - Audrey Hepburn
Saying No
Hey everyone! Today I decided to sit down and talk to y'all about something I really believe most college students have to deal with an navigate from time to time, saying no. Sometimes you have to say no to joining a club you might want to join, or going to a sporting event or concert. Whatever the case may be, saying no is something that we often have to do but we don't often want to do. So I wanted to talk about it with y'all!
It's important to remember that saying yes is totally ok, normal. and fun, don't forget to say no sometimes. If we're being honest, we just aren't capable of joining every club, attending every sporting event, and being at every weekend event with their friends, no matter how much we want to. So don't forget to say no every once and a while between and the yeses.
The times you say no, even if you wish you had said yes, are good for your health. Everyone needs a chance to rest. Everyone needs a chance to relax. Everyone needs a chance to just be lazy. So the times when you don't have anything going on, is a good thing! It allows you to re-energize for those times when you do say yes. It gives you the chance to enjoy and appreciate the little things in life, like a good Netflix binge, and also helps you stay grateful for all the fun times and events you've participated in.
Saying no doesn't mean your uncool or boring. I think that sometimes we're afraid to say no because we're nervous about what others might say about us. We don't want them to think we're not cool enough to go to some event with them or that we're too boring to go, but as I said before, everyone needs to say no sometimes to get that rest. It's ok. It's normal. You're not uncool or boring.
The no's will make the yeses more successful. The time saying no gives you to relax and recuperate will allow you to have the most fun and be the most successful during the times you say yes. You'll be able to actually enjoy it if you aren't stressed or worrying about something else, so that rest and down time is so important!
Saying no is something I honestly struggle with from time to time, but I really think it's so important to not only talk about but put into practice. I really hope what I has to say helped someone! Let me know your thoughts on saying no in the comments below!
Blogger Interview: Kate
Why did you start blogging?
I was in law school at the time and slowly came to the realization that that was not what I wanted to be doing with my life, and that I was only in law school because I come from a family of lawyers. When I received a particularly lucrative job offer in the field that I really wanted to work in, I took it as a sign to quit law school. I was - and still am - very happy with my new job, but you can't really get away from the perils of questioning life decisions no matter how justified you feel they are. So I started my blog as a way to combat my existential crises, doubts, and life challengers in general, and it just spiraled into a sort-of journal cataloging an average millennial's life.
Do you have a staple clothing item? If so, what is it?
Does a backpack count as a staple clothing item? If it does, my orange High Sierra backpack is my staple. I'm strictly a satchel/tote kind of girl at the office and school, but my backpack is my weapon of choice when I'm traveling. That backpack's been with me on countless camping and hiking trips, and it's been my carry-on to over half a dozen different countries.
If bags don't count though, I haven't really had a staple clothing item, but I do have staple colors. If you open my closet you'll see nothing but black, white, beige, brown, gray, and navy blue. I'm strictly a #neutrallife kind of girl. It makes dressing in the morning so easy.
What's your favorite TV show to binge watch?
*opens Powerpoint presentation* *shuffles notecards*
My all-time favorite TV show to binge is Supernatural. Man-pain, gay subtext, and monsters? I'm here for that.
Lately though I'm also into Hawaii Five-0 (more gay subtext), GrimmScream Queens, and Game of Thrones (pain, nothing but pain).
Do you have a favorite post you've written on your blog? If so, link it! (it can just be your most recent post if you don't have a favorite!)
I have two favorite posts so far: Mortality in the Cordilleras (https://bequietkate.wordpress.com/2016/04/21/mortality-in-the-cordilleras/) where I talk about how hiking in the Cordillera Mountains made me feel so small and insignificant; and Once upon a grad-waiting (https://bequietkate.wordpress.com/2016/04/01/once-upon-a-grad-waiting/) where I talk about how it's been 3 years since I graduated from university.
What's your favorite quote?
I have two. My first is actually a Bible verse - Galatians 3:28. "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
The second is from Coraline, a Neil Gaiman novel. "Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten"
Monthly Intentions Collaboration- September
Hey everyone! Can you believe it's already September? I can't! It seems like 2016 in itself has gone by really fast but the past few months have really flown by for me! Does anyone else feel the same? But anyhow, I want to update y'all on my August goals and share my goals for September!
High for August- My high for August was the retreat I want on with my sorority sisters the weekend of the 27th. We really bonded and had a great time! We're actually founding a sorority chapter on our campus so it can be busy and stressful at times, so the retreat was a good chance to just chill together!
Low for August- My low for August was the fact that it was kind of hard to get into a good routine during the month of August. I had a ton of different things going on so I could never finalize a good routine before it was time to change my schedule again. However, I've been in school for almost 3 weeks now and a routine is taking shape and it's going great!
August Goals Update-
1. Comment on more Instagram photos- I think I did pretty well with this, but I think this is something that always has room for improvement when it comes to typical "blogging stuff."
2. Stick to my blogging schedule- I pretty much stuck to the plan I had put together at the very beginning of the month so I'm really proud of that!
3. Go to the gym/ work out at least 3 times a week- I kept up with this goal and  I'm very proud of it!
 September Goals
(This one is all about getting life together!)
1. Get into a good school/work routine- As I said above, August was a little rough in the routine department, but now that I've been in school for a little bit a routine has started to take shape and I really want to use the month of September to really get into the routine and make it work for me.
2. Stick to my updated blogging schedule- Over the summer I posted Monday, Wednesday and Friday. However, now that school is back in I've decided to change my schedule to Tuesday and Friday. This is different and will be a change for me so I want to use September to adjust to the new posting schedule.
3. Enjoy- I really just want to enjoy everything in my life this month even if it's not necessarily supposed to be for fun, like babysitting. I think this will keep me sane even if things get crazy or busy!
I know that this months post was a little bit heavier on the August recap side and a little bit lighter on the September goals side- but this month has a lot going on for me with school, work, a sorority, and so on, so I wanted to keep my goals this month simple yet something that will really help me to be successful.
I hope you enjoyed this post! And as always with this collaboration- check out the ladies below to see what their goals are for this month are!
Blogger Interview: Emily C
Emily is the blogger behind Honey Bee Joyous. Read below to learn more about this blogger!
~~~
Why did you start blogging?
The idea of starting a blog was in the back of my head since middle school, when I first started reading blogs. By the time I got to college, I was reading blogs specifically aimed at college students as well as blogs about planning, organizing, and productivity, but it didn't seem like there was much overlap between those two types of blogs. So I decided that I wanted to start my own blog to fill that gap and create a productivity blog aimed specifically at college students. I'm hoping my blog can evolve with me and my audience as we all grow up together. One day I hope to be able to make a full time job out of it.

Do you have a staple clothing item? If so, what is it?

Sundresses! I have a problem where when I go clothes shopping, no matter what kind of clothing I actually need, I always walk out with at least one new dress. Summer is the best because I can wear dresses all the time.

What's your favorite TV show to binge watch?

Criminal Minds, for sure! But if I'm in the mood for a lighter show I also love watching Bob's Burgers and Parks & Recreation.

Do you have a favorite, or very recent post you've written on your blog?

It's so hard to choose a favorite blog post, because I only publish things I'm really happy with, but if I had to pick one it would be my post on How to Be Confident in Job Interviews (http://honeybeejoyous.com/2016/03/confident-job-interviews/) because I was able to combine tips that other people gave me with my own experiences into a post filled with super actionable advice that I'm really proud of.

What's your favorite quote?

"One can always find contemporaries anywhere in time, and compatriots anywhere in space. And wherever this happens, and for as long as it lasts, one is lucky to feel one is something in the infinite loneliness of the universe." —Eduardo Galeano

Blogger Interview: Hannah

Hannah is the blogger behind Hannah With A Camera. Read below to learn more about this blogger!
~~~
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging in my senior year of high school because I wanted a way to document my life easily while I was growing up. I'd made several blogs before but this is the one that I've been dedicated to since October of 2014! I take a lot of photographs and I've recently started experimenting with video, so I started with posts about my personal life and I've expanded to more lifestyle posts to benefit people.
Do you have a staple clothing item? If so, what is it?
The chambray shirt. I'm currently wearing one of three that I own in a medium wash over a t-shirt. When I'm actually trying to put together an outfit, I'll usually reach for a button-down shirt. The chambray shirt is classic enough that it can match anything and it's lightweight enough to throw on at night.
What's your favorite TV show to binge watch?
Dance Academy! It's an Australian show on Netflix about dancers in a professional training academy/high school. I've seen the whole series at least three times now.
Do you have a favorite, or very recent, post you've written on your blog?
This is my most popular post with over 15,000 all-time views, but this is actually one of my favorite posts that I've written. My most popular post is about organization in high school and it's done super well (thanks Pinterest!), so I've written a lot more school-related posts since. My most favorite post, however, is about my grad party! My mom and my friend's mom put so much time into making it look Pinterest-worthy and gorgeous, and it came together so well.
What's your favorite quote?
“If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” -Roahl Dahl
